Dr. Michael Kezian is known as the “Ironman Dentist” by his friends and patients. Being an active and competitive athlete, Michael is also a practicing dentist in Los Angeles, California. Following in his parent’s footsteps, Dr. Arthur Kezian and Dr. Narine Tashjian, he’s known his whole life that he wanted to become a dentist. In 2013, he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Pacific’s accelerated program. Afterwards, Michael entered into a General Practice Residency at the Fresno VA hospital, where his career officially kick-started.

During his time at the University, Dr. Michael joined Fresno’s Knights of Vartan in 2014. This non-sectarian, non-denominational, and non-political organization focuses on service, discipline, and knightly virtues. Along with pursuing his career, Michael continued his love for athletics, continuing to become an avid cyclist and runner. Organizations like the Knights of Vartan and his participation in competitive sports like triathlons have helped build his approach to life, including in his dental practice. It’s this passion for endurance and his drive to compete that led him to his nickname, the “Ironman Dentist.”

The Ironman Triathlon is a difficult competition, that takes stamina, strength, and perseverance. It includes a 2.4 mile open-water swim, a full marathon run (26.2 miles!), and a 112-mile bike ride. Dr. Michael Kezian’s love for competition has pushed him into rigorous training. This attitude and drive is reflected in his dental practice. In both his personal life and his business, Michael has shown “the drive and motivation to set goals and fulfill the dreams of being the best you can be.”

Dr. Michael Kezian continues to show his values, and people notice. Recently, he attended the 54th Annual Award of the Knights of Vartan Tri-Lodge Banquet on April 28, 2019, where he was awarded the Armenian Athlete Award. This award was well deserved, as it reflected his athletic ability and also his dedication to being the very best version of himself. The Armenian Athlete Award is also a legacy award. His own grandfather, Deran Tashjian, has won the same award for Outstanding Athletic Achievement.

Deran Tashjian has led an amazing and interesting life, just like his grandson. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Deran’s parents made a life-changing decision to move to Soviet-Armenia i

n 1949, right before his high school graduation. As tough as the transition was for him, Deran’s saving grace was his athletic abilities. He quickly rose to success as an athlete and though he nearly competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics, his career was prematurely ended due to an extreme injury.

This set back didn’t stop his career, however, and Deran Tashjian soon became a prominent track and field coach. This lasted over 20 years and during this time he trained numerous award-winning athlete

s. Though his career as a coach was rewarding, Deran and his wife and children moved back to the United States in 1975. Today you can find he and his wife helping meet the needs of passionate Armenian people, serving The Knights and Daughters of Vartan like his grandson.

Dr. Michael Kezian is hard at working serving the clients at his practice, when he’s not training for impressive triathlons. A few years ago he opened his dental office in Los Angeles, California – Larchmont Dental Associates. Hoping to earn the reputation as the “community’s emergency dentist,” he wants his office to be the place you can call whenever you have a dental emergency. He and his team focuses on cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, advanced surgical procedures, and of course, emergency cases. No matter whether it’s a Sunday morning or a crisis in the middle of the day, you and your family can call Dr. Michael’s office and he will be there to assist you however you need.

This dedication to his clients and his drive for being the best dentist available is something that he learned from his family. In fact, his dental path was laid out when he was young. Because of his countless hours spent at his parents’ dental practice, he fell in love with the dentistry vocation in the waiting room. Michael’s career is still taking off, as he believes that dentistry can and should be fun. As an honor graduate of the University of Pacific Dugoni Dental School with over five years of experience with his dream job, it has been fun for him. Following in his grandfather’s and family’s footsteps, Dr. Michael isn’t done competing yet! As a champion of good health and a known advocate for reaching big goals, he just completed an Ironman competition May 11, 2019. Because of his Ironman training, Michael has a fat to muscle ratio of less than 8%. His unique and strict diet has helped him succeed, though he says the mental component is the most challenging part. He spends over a year training and preparing for each competition. He says, “It is important to see past the failure… and see your dream at the end of the tunnel.” Having competed most of his life, he knows what to expect and is always ready to reach his goals and set bigger and better ones each year. Dr. Michael Kezian isn’t going to lose his reputation as the “Ironman Dentist” anytime soon, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for him next!
